Our journey began in 2007
The TCD Law Student Colloquium was founded in 2007 by students with a vision to make a substantial academic contribution to their community. It started as an independent, student-led initiative, providing a vital platform for undergraduate and postgraduate scholars, as well as other individuals, to openly present their research. Since then, we have grown into Ireland's leading student legal organization, consistently attracting a diverse international presence and fostering engaging academic discourse.
What makes us stand out
The Colloquium distinguishes itself through its inclusive academic focus, unique independent structure, and significant international reach. Unlike typical faculty-managed university seminars, the Colloquium is entirely run by students. It operates independently from the School of Law, with its own dedicated committee responsible for securing sponsorships, coordinating logistics, and inviting notable figures such as prominent judges and the European Ombudsman. This independence offers student organizers hands-on experience in project management and legal networking that standard university societies often cannot provide. Attracting over 100 delegates and dozens of speakers from Ireland, the UK, continental Europe, and beyond, our conference is renowned for its focus on high-calibre academic contributions.

Our most important outcome is providing a dynamic, student-led platform where emerging scholars can actively shape future legal discourse. The Colloquium is designed to be much more than a passive learning experience; it is an engaging environment where both undergraduate and postgraduate students are empowered to express themselves and present original research. For students, the primary benefit is gaining hands-on, practical experience in academic organisation, public speaking, and peer-to-peer discourse. For faculty and the broader academic community, the Colloquium serves as a vital bridge, connecting the law school's rigorous academic standards with fresh, innovative student perspectives.
Who we are for
The Colloquium is primarily designed for student scholars who want to step out of the traditional classroom setting and actively contribute to legal academia. Our core audience includes undergraduate students, postgraduate researchers (Masters and PhD), and students in courses with a substantial legal component. For undergraduates, it's a rare opportunity to present research alongside advanced scholars, building confidence and offering chances for cash prizes and publication. Postgraduates can test complex theories on topics like AI, environmental law, or digital crimes, receiving feedback from a diverse, international peer group. The Colloquium also welcomes recent graduates and those in vocational legal training, providing valuable networking and engagement opportunities.
