The TCD Law Student Colloquium became aware only today of the existence of an organisation presenting itself as the TCD Law Student Symposium, apparently established on 20 September.
What particularly caught our attention is that the TCD Law Student Colloquium and members of our Committee appear to be blocked from viewing the account. As a result, we were unable to see the material being published there ourselves. We became aware of the account after members of our community who support the Colloquium brought it to our attention and shared screenshots and information with us.
A Familiar Identity
From the material brought to our attention, the organization appears to be presenting itself as a student-led law initiative and is actively promoting a program of events and activities.
The similarity in terminology and presentation has naturally raised questions for the Colloquium, particularly given the established identity and history of the TCD Law Student Colloquium.
We were therefore surprised to discover this initiative only now and to see it being presented publicly in this manner.
Committee Recruitment Underway
The development becomes even more interesting as the organization is currently recruiting members for its committee.
Applications appear to be open until 30 September, meaning that prospective committee members have only a short period in which to put themselves forward.
And, naturally, one question has already attracted our attention:

What Our Supporters Brought to Our Attention
The screenshots and photographs shared with us show that the organisation is actively promoting its activities through social media, including material referring to the TCD Law Student Symposium.
We have included the relevant material in this article so that students and members of the wider Trinity community can examine it for themselves.
We believe transparency is important, particularly when organisations operating within the student community appear to use similar names, descriptions or institutional associations.
